Fable 5.1 makes three.js sites: faster and sharper, but taste still matters
repligate · x · 2026-09-03
Designer MengTo shares a hands-on review of building three.js sites with Fable 5.1: it's faster, follows complex design instructions better, recreates references with precision, and writes more readable copy.
Remaining pain points:
- Generic AI illustrations unless you specify images
- Hard 3D subjects like people and dogs turn into "3D slop" without Higgsfield 3D models
- Textures, lighting, and small details still need pushing
- Taste is irreplaceable: overlapping elements, negative space, and scroll behavior needed manual fixes
- Particle, VHS, and CRT effects came from Canvas UI, an open-source HTML-in-Canvas/WebGPU component library praised by shadcn and the Chromium team
Net takeaway: faster generation burns tokens aggressively, but static sites are getting hard to settle for.
