Gary Marcus backs proposal to halt frontier AI training runs worldwide

Physicist Anthony Aguirre issued a half-tongue-in-cheek call for an indefinite worldwide pause on frontier AI training runs, allowing narrower, sub-frontier tools to continue and permitting stronger systems only with demonstrated alignment and oversight to an independent authority. Gary Marcus publicly seconded the proposal, saying he has no better idea.
