Acemoglu: Current AI Fails to Reach Mechanisms of Human Cognition, May Misdirect Investment
ylecun · x · 2026-09-01
Daron Acemoglu shared a perspective suggesting that in many areas where tech optimists predict AI revolutions, the impact may be much less positive. This is because current approaches do not help us get to the bottom of mechanisms of human cognition, discovery, and innovation. Many fields require more and higher quality data for further advances, and AI's competence in coding and writing does not generalize. Worse, AI enthusiasm may push research and investment in the wrong direction.
