The EU has placed ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox under its toughest digital safety rules (the DSA), with 4 months to meet stricter oversight demands.
- ChatGPT was designated a Very Large Online Search Engine (VLOSE); Reddit and Roblox became Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) after each reporting at least 45 million average monthly EU users
- The designation requires systemic-risk assessments covering illegal content, minors, physical and mental wellbeing, fundamental rights, elections, and public security
- They must also undergo annual independent audits, share compliance data with regulators, and give vetted researchers data access for studying systemic risks
