Anthropic faces major copyright lawsuit, wins Pentagon blacklist case

This week has been eventful for Anthropic across legal, policy, and product fronts:
1. Copyright Lawsuit Escalation
Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell have sued Anthropic, alongside CEO Dario Amodei and co-founder Benjamin Mann personally. They allege a "brazen campaign" of torrenting and scraping song lyrics to train Claude. With Universal, BMG, and Round Hill already suing, every major music publisher is now involved. The complaint claims Anthropic fine-tuned Claude for lyric tasks despite knowing about memorization issues, making a fair use defense harder.
2. Legal Victory Against Pentagon
A federal judge struck down the Pentagon's blacklist of Anthropic, calling it unlawful retaliation. Anthropic was labeled a "supply chain risk" after refusing to allow Claude's use in certain military operations. The judge criticized the "empty invocation of national security" to punish critics.
3. Usage Limits PR Disaster
Anthropic announced a "permanent 25% increase" to Claude Code's weekly limits. However, users quickly calculated that since the current boost is 50%, moving to 125% of baseline actually amounts to a 17% cut. The framing of a reduction as a gift angered users, leading Anthropic to admit the math and attracting a Community Note on the post.
