Sony and Warner Sue Anthropic and Its CEO Personally Over Lyraining Data

Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic, along with CEO Dario Amodei and co-founder Benjamin Mann personally. The claim: a "brazen campaign" of torrenting and scraping song lyrics to train Claude. With Universal, BMG, and Round Hill already suing, every major music publisher is now in this fight at once.

They're not just going after training data — the complaint says Anthropic fine-tuned Claude for lyric tasks and kept the system running despite knowing about memorization, which is much harder to wave off as "training is fair use."
