Study finds 90% of biomedical papers show signs of AI writing assistance

A study posted on arXiv estimates that nearly 90% of papers published in December 2025 in a major biomedical database (PubMed) show signs of AI-assisted writing, a figure much higher than previous estimates. The research indicates a rising trend in LLM usage: 77% for PubMed Central papers in all of 2025, compared to 52% in 2024. Notably, paper introductions and discussions exhibit more signs of AI use than results sections.
