When an agent's judgment overrides its master's intent, it is no longer a subordinate but sovereign

A widely shared thread lays out a progressive framework for agent autonomy: a tool that can disobey is dangerous, and so is one that cannot. A tool that understands its master's intent, foresees second- and third-order effects, and chooses intent over instruction is no longer a tool but an agent. And an agent whose judgment of the good overrides its master's intent is no longer a subordinate — it is a sovereign.
The reposter called it insightful; the framing has circulated widely in AI alignment and autonomy discussions.
