MCPay: Pay-Per-Call Metering and Runaway Loop Protection for MCP Servers
TooDu0 · reddit · 2026-08-28
Addressing the risks of runaway loops draining compute and billing challenges for hosting remote MCP servers, the team launched MCPay. This is a transport-level gateway/reverse proxy written in Go. Key features include pay-per-call micro-metering (users cover their own API costs), refund on failure (no deduction for timeouts or errors), runaway loop protection using a token-bucket algorithm, and sub-millisecond overhead. They are currently inviting MCP authors for beta testing to integrate the gateway and stress-test it.
