The Amdahl's Law Blind Spot Distorting AI Impact Discourse: 1000x + 2x ≈ 4x, Not 500x

Security researcher Joshua Saxe points out a systematic math error in AI impact discussions: if AI speeds up 50% of a task's work by 1000x and the other 50% by only 2x, the whole task is accelerated just 4x, not the 500x people intuitively assume.

He calls this a System 1 bias that even serious policy people fall for, and argues it is distorting the broader discourse on AI's productivity impact — essentially Amdahl's Law applied to AI.
