AWS Bedrock Adds OpenAI GPT-5.6 Models in India with 1M Token Context
AWS ML Blog · rss · 2026-08-28
Amazon Bedrock now supports OpenAI GPT-5.6 Terra and Luna models in India, featuring India geographic cross-Region inference.
Key Features:
- Data Residency: Inference is routed strictly within India (Mumbai and Hyderabad Regions) to meet local data processing requirements.
- Model Capabilities: Both models support a 1-million-token context window and accept text and image inputs.
- Cross-Region Inference: Uses inference profiles (e.g., in.openai.gpt-5.6-terra) to automatically route requests within India to optimize throughput and capacity.
Technical Integration:
- Native support for OpenAI Responses API and Chat Completions APIs, allowing easy migration by changing the base URL and model ID.
- Authentication via AWS credentials or short-lived Bedrock API keys.
- Reasoning depth can be controlled via the reasoning parameter (levels: none, low, medium, high, xhigh, max).
