Paper Fixes 2D-3D Fluid Coupling Mismatch with Nonlinear Wave Model

ssh4net · x · 2026-08-27

To address the wave dynamics mismatch when coupling localized 3D fluid solvers with cheaper 2D surface models in large-scale free-surface water simulation, Sinan Wang et al. introduce a nonlinear and dispersive 2D wave model based on the Zakharov formulation. Its Hamiltonian structure treats surface elevation and surface potential as a canonical pair governed by wave energy, effectively eliminating visible reflections and artifacts at the 2D-3D interface.
