Claude Launches Built-in Browser for Automated Web Tasks in Cowork
xiaohu · x · 2026-08-27
Claude has introduced a built-in browser within the Cowork feature. This browser opens in the sidebar to navigate, fill forms, and complete tasks, operating in a fully isolated environment separate from the user's personal browser history and passwords. Selective login state syncing is supported for non-sensitive sites.
Key Features:
- Task Automation: Automatically navigates and interacts with web pages.
- Security & Isolation: Banks, emails, and SSO sites are excluded by default to protect privacy.
- Cross-Device Control: Runs on the desktop app, allowing mobile commands to trigger browser actions on the PC.
Use Cases: Cross-platform competitor research, bulk invoice downloads, and automating form filling in legacy systems without APIs.
Availability: Rolling out to Pro, Max, and Team subscribers; Enterprise admins can enable it immediately. Users can toggle between the built-in browser and the Chrome extension in settings.
