Responding to Dylan Patel's view that China might be more willing to slow down AGI, Sean O'hEigeartaigh argues that grassroots pressure is much lower in China due to the lack of civil society and a culture of opposing central priorities. AI is largely seen as part of a beneficial technological revolution. However, he notes that significant job losses and social disruption could trigger broader opposition from both the public and the government.
