Agentic Evolution: Long-Horizon Tasks Will Shift Inference Optimization Goals

zhyncs42 · x · 2026-08-26

Over the next 6 months, agentic workloads will evolve toward long-horizon tasks running for hours, days, or weeks. This will fundamentally change inference workloads, shifting optimization targets from low latency/cost to new classes of optimizations for long-running agents. Meanwhile, single-GPU optimizations (kernels, speculative decoding, quantization) are becoming commoditized, with real differentiation moving to system-level optimizations like PD disaggregation and KV stores.
