Energy-first AI hardware design might mimic the brain

What would AI hardware look like if designed from first principles around energy rather than FLOPs? It might behave more like a brain because brains follow excellent energy principles: local computation, sparse communication, mostly inactive neurons, intertwined memory and computation, low precision, and event-driven activity.

An energy-first AI chip would ask "How little physical activity can produce the next correct token?", leading to hardware that is sparse + local + low precision + memory-centric + event-driven + heterogeneous.
