AI detectors dubbed a 'gatekeeper grift' propping up academia's knowledge monopoly

Anyone producing competent text outside credentialed channels risks being flagged as "AI slop" — independent researchers, students who write too cleanly. The gatekeepers can fight, but they can't restore the monopoly now that AI lets anyone write competently.
