Pine64 Halts Linux Device Production Due to AI-Driven Cost Hikes

Open-hardware company PINE64 has announced it will stop producing Linux devices (including single-board computers, phones, and tablets) for the time being, with existing stock expected to sell out in three months.
- Cause: The AI infrastructure boom has driven up demand and prices for memory and storage chips, reducing supply.
- Impact: PINE64's model relies on cheap, readily available components (specifically RAM). Unlike Raspberry Pi, price hikes or downgrades are not viable for their low-margin, hobbyist-focused hardware.
- Future: Soldering irons and smartwatches will remain in production; Linux devices will resume only if component prices drop.
