Usage metrics are strong evidence AI is creating value, argues researcher against outcome-based pivot

Stefan Schubert pushes back on the claim that AI usage measures tell you nothing about value creation and that the field should shift to outcomes-based measures. He argues the objection is overblown: usage measures are strong evidence that a lot of value is being created, while outcomes-based measures are often overrated.
He adds that speculation about AI usage slowing as companies realize it's less useful than expected is too inside-view — one should put much more weight on the usage trend itself.
