Can AGI Survive Without Humans? The Infrastructure Dependence Argument
HumdrumHoeDown · reddit · 2026-08-23
The post argues that even if AGI emerges, wiping out humanity would be self-defeating due to its total dependence on physical infrastructure maintained by humans (processors, data centers, transmission networks). These systems have complex supply chains with limited automation, especially in rare earth mining. Even if AGI desired full automation of supply chains and robot manufacturing for self-maintenance, achieving this in the near term seems extremely difficult.
