Chinese humanoid robots broke human world records, including beating Usain Bolt's 100-meter sprint record, at the opening of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. Over 2,000 humanoid robots participated in the five-day event, featuring 51 events and more than 1,000 competitions such as running, table tennis, and soccer. The event highlights China's rapid progress in advanced robotics amidst a heating technology race with the U.S. It coincides with the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, where around 3,000 products were showcased. Recently, the U.S. FCC banned imports of new foreign-made humanoid robots citing national security, and the Pentagon added Chinese robot maker Unitree to a list of companies with military ties.
