I taught an LLM to win the Cold War: GPT-4 beats Twilight Struggle AI
alekpinel · reddit · 2026-08-22
The author built an engine for the board game Twilight Struggle using Claude and tested if an LLM (GPT-4) could play it. Although it makes mistakes like starting nuclear wars and struggles with long-term planning, it managed to beat the official AI in one game. Strategy was injected via prompts rather than self-learning. Code is open source.
