Netflix tests language model as alternative to hand-built recommendation logic

Netflix is testing an internal LLM called GenRec to replace its legacy recommendation engine. Instead of relying on thousands of hand-crafted features, GenRec converts viewing behavior into plain text for the model to process. Netflix describes the results as an "early but promising step" showing potential over traditional logic.
