Using AI to mass-scan dissertations for plagiarism is malicious, not academic progress

Responding to the idea of using AI to scan every academic's dissertation for plagiarism, the author argues this is intellectually equivalent to digging up old highschool photos to embarrass someone. It serves more to hurt others than to contribute to real work.
