mcp-anything: Index 75k MCP Servers and Let Models Discover and Call Any Tool
Outcome_Hour · reddit · 2026-08-21
Release of mcp-anything, a meta-MCP server that solves MCP discovery and configuration overhead. It syncs the official registry, PulseMCP, npm, and Glama into a local BM25 index (deduplicated by repo identity, ranked by stars/downloads). It exposes 5 meta-tools: search, describe, list, call, and sync. The model simply requests a capability (e.g., "query Postgres"), and the system finds the server, pulls schemas, and execution while keeping context costs constant.
Security Focus:
- SSRF guard: refuses loopback/private IPs.
- stdio (npx/uvx) OFF by default; per-package allowlist.
- Secrets never indexed; injected only at connect time.
- Downstream output labeled untrusted.
TypeScript, MIT, local-first, supports private registries.
