Volcengine open-sources OpenViking: a filesystem-style context database for AI agents
JeremyCMorgan · x · 2026-08-21
Volcengine (ByteDance) has open-sourced OpenViking (31k+ stars on GitHub), a "self-evolving context database" for AI agents that unifies agent memory, knowledge RAG and skills.
Instead of treating agent context as a magic memory layer, it works like a filesystem: viking:// URIs, tiered reads, and inspectable retrieval paths, with CLI and Docker deployment. Integrations cover Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, MCP and LangChain; the repo ships benchmarks, SDKs and a web studio.
