DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-08-19
Linux desktop usage is seeing significant growth. StatCounter reports a 10.65% share in North America, while Cloudflare data shows a global rise from 4.1% to 6.4%.
Notably, usage spiked to 22% on a recent workday, suggesting this trend is driven by developers, sysadmins, and AI builders rather than casual home users. Linux is increasingly preferred for AI workflows, offering better performance for stitching together models, managing GPU tooling, and handling dependencies compared to Windows 11.
