MIT professor James Cowling shares an 'anti-skill' he learned: being a 'hater.' He used to believe that being smart meant dedicating all effort to finding flaws in research papers. He notes many infra engineers share this tendency. He eventually realized that turning a fledgling idea into something valuable is much harder, and learning to be constructive is a long-term work in progress.
