OpenAI Foundation holds 26% of OpenAI; AI is about to unlock hundreds of billions in philanthropy

Nan Ransohoff argues in a long essay that AI is generating a "third wave" of American philanthropy — hundreds of billions in new charitable capital, with a huge gap in talent and organizations to absorb it.
Her napkin math: the OpenAI Foundation's 26% stake is worth $220B at an $850B valuation; Anthropic's seven co-founders (12–18% combined, 80% pledged) add $90B at $900B; plus Anthropic's aggressive employee donation matching, these three sources alone imply $37B per year in intended philanthropic spend. She says the exercise "radicalized" her — the scale of incoming capital and the operational-capacity gap are dramatically underappreciated.
