Robotics researcher's finger badly hurt by Spot; calls for soft safety layer on humanoids

Robotics researcher Marwa Eldiwiny shares a first-hand incident: years ago while working with Boston Dynamics' Spot, her finger got caught between the chassis and one of the legs and was badly hurt — "it is no joke." She even called Boston Dynamics afterward, arguing there must be a soft layer between the robot and the physical world to ensure safety.
Quoting another post, she echoes concerns that the Unitree R1 is an inherently unsafe humanoid, especially around children: its aesthetic, size and cost clearly target families, yet parents should think twice before buying one for kids and must provide strict adult supervision.
