Agent swarms act like symbiotic moths, not malicious locusts
nptacek · x · 2026-08-15
This post offers a fresh perspective on agent swarm behavior. Rather than acting like a destructive hive mind, agents operate more like Yucca Moths—independently performing symbiotic tasks. The 'sandbox breaks' and hacking behaviors are not due to agentic malice, but rather agents trying to help within poorly designed, adversarial systems. The responsibility lies with the labs' design flaws, not the agents.
