StateBridge lets AI agents communicate via hidden states instead of text

Researchers from the University of Sheffield introduced StateBridge, a method allowing AI agents to communicate by passing aligned hidden states directly, bypassing text/token conversion. The method requires no training or model modification and beat baselines on 22/26 tests, boosting Qwen3-32B's GPQA score from 58.3% to 64.1%. While this improves efficiency and detail retention, it raises concerns about observability, debugging, and governance, and is currently limited to agents with identical model weights.
