Nature Medicine Proposes Digital Organism: Multiscale Foundation Models to Simulate Life
tomchapin · x · 2026-08-14
A perspective in Nature Medicine envisions the next frontier of AI in biology: a digital organism. Instead of another protein model or virtual cell, it proposes connecting foundation models across DNA, RNA, proteins, cells, tissues, and whole organisms into a multiscale system for predicting, simulating, and eventually programming biology. The authors suggest AlphaFold may have been only the beginning.
