Opinion: Stop Calling OpenAI and Others 'AI Labs'; They Are Profit-Driven Companies

The author argues that we should stop referring to organizations like OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, xAI, and Google as "AI labs" and instead call them "AI companies."
The post points out that the ultimate goal of these entities is profit, not pure knowledge. While there is nothing wrong with pursuing profit, it is misleading for them to hide behind the word "lab" to pretend that their work is research for research's sake.
