Study Forecasts AI to Significantly Elevate Cyber Risks to Power Grids

The Forecasting Research Institute published a pilot study investigating how AI capabilities may affect near-term cybersecurity risks. The research focuses on two high-impact cyberattack pathways: data-damaging worm attacks and cyberattacks against the U.S. electrical grid.
The report notes that because AI cyber capabilities are evolving rapidly, these findings should be viewed as forecasts of future risks rather than assessments of current frontier models.
