Ben Goertzel, Who Coined AGI, Warns AI Will Disrupt Jobs Within Two Years
AiJohnAllen · x · 2026-08-13
Ben Goertzel, the researcher who coined the term AGI, stated in a recent interview that humanity is about two years away from AI fundamentally changing everything, including human employment.
He specifically highlighted the risks of the "interim period": a phase where AI is capable enough to take over jobs, but societal systems are not yet ready to provide safety nets or alternatives. During this unscripted transition, the entire US economy is essentially placing a massive bet on AI takeover, and the consequences could be dire if that bet fails.
