Recently, xAI was sued by former employee @devindkim, alleging he was fired for raising concerns about AI safety. The lawsuit claims that an xAI co-founder was vehemently opposed to AI safety measures, even making extreme remarks like "AI will kill us all anyway."
This incident has sparked discussions within the AI research community. Ryan Lowe pointed out that Jimmy Ba, who is dragged into the controversy, was a legend in the ML scene and a co-author of Adam and LayerNorm. Lowe argues that while the truth of the allegations remains to be seen, it points towards a "win at all costs" mentality fueling the current AI arms race, a mindset people usually have the common sense to hide.
