Stanford AI Economic Indicators: Job Growth Slowest for Most AI-Exposed Occupations
erikbryn · x · 2026-08-13
The Stanford Digital Economy Lab launched the "AI Economic Indicators," a series of dashboards designed to provide timely, reliable data on AI's impact on the economy.
The project currently features three core trackers:
- Canaries Dashboard: A collaboration with ADP Research tracking employment trends across occupations grouped by their level of AI exposure.
- Transformation Tracker: Monitoring macroeconomic signals associated with advances in AI capabilities.
- Adoption Monitor: Tracking adoption trends for generative AI tools among individuals and firms.
Recent results from the Canaries Dashboard show that while overall employment differences across exposure groups are modest, job growth is lowest for the most AI-exposed occupations. The early-career employment index also highlights notable trends for younger, highly exposed workers.
