jocarrasqueira · x · 2026-08-13
Google DeepMind introduced SL2T, a massively multilingual sign-language-to-text translation model, bringing sign language AI to consumer products for the first time.
The model powers Gboard and Live Transcribe on Pixel 11. Deaf and hard-of-hearing users can now use American Sign Language (ASL) directly on their phones to search the web, draft documents, reply in conversations, and query Gemini to execute tasks. DeepMind noted that additional devices and languages will be coming soon.
