The open-source LLM project Apertus has received $1M in funding from Coefficiency to support its work on "model raising"—aligning LLMs from the very first pretraining token.

The grant will fund 3 AI Safety Research Engineer positions at EPFL. Co-hosted by SwissAI, MLO, and dlab, these engineers will contribute directly to Apertus, one of the world's largest fully open-source LLM efforts, which is being trained on over 10,000 GPUs.
