David P. Reichert, a researcher at Google DeepMind, published a long post detailing his experience using Claude Code for a series of mini machine learning projects.

He notes that much of the ongoing criticism claiming 'AI cannot reason or solve novel problems' is based on interactions with chatbots from a year ago, rather than current AI agents. He found that modern AI agents are already solving real-world problems for him in a way that functionally resembles 'reasoning and understanding.' He argues that regardless of whether AI possesses genuine reasoning, its practical problem-solving capabilities will be sufficient to make a massive impact on the world.
