OpenAI's $7B Share Sale Could Inject Massive Capital into SF Housing Market

VC Rohin Dhar highlighted that OpenAI employees recently sold $7 billion worth of shares, an amount almost sufficient to purchase every home sold in San Francisco over the past year.
Barak Gila analyzed that with only 4,800 homes sold in SF during 2025 for about $9B, this $7B tender could inject over $5B into potential Bay Area homebuyers. Because Prop 13 disincentivizes selling, the limited housing supply combined with this massive capital injection could drive up price volatility for the homes that do sell.
