"Lost in the Middle" Persists in Long Contexts; CoT Training Prioritizes Structure Over Facts

The author shares two key insights on LLM training and inference:
- "Lost in the middle" is still a thing: Huge context windows don't guarantee usefulness. Important information buried in the middle of the prompt still gets missed.
- Structure > perfect facts for reasoning training: When teaching chain-of-thought, models learn the template for breaking down problems rather than the literal correctness of every intermediate step.
