DeepMind Unveils SL2T Sign Language AI, Coming to Pixel 11

Google DeepMind introduced a massively multilingual sign-language-to-text (SL2T) translation model, aiming to serve over 70 million Deaf and hard-of-hearing users globally.
For the first time, this technology is moving from the lab to consumer products. SL2T now powers Gboard and Live Transcribe on the Pixel 11, starting with American Sign Language (ASL) to English. Users can sign directly to their phones to search the web, draft documents, or interact with Gemini instead of typing. Testers reported that signing is faster and feels more natural than typing.
