SK Hynix Mulls Selling Chongqing Plant to Pivot Towards AI Memory

South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix is exploring options for its packaging facility in Chongqing, China, in a deal that could value the plant at around $3 billion, according to SCMP.

The potential sale is a strategic move to recycle capital away from lower-margin legacy NAND flash products towards the highly profitable AI memory sector, such as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). However, analysts caution that navigating valuation hurdles and volatile chip cycles could complicate the deal.
