Building an AI Content Agent: Why Chasing Throughput Is a Trap
Specialist-Band-7821 · reddit · 2026-08-12
The author shares lessons from building a content generation agent pipeline for a client, which included research, outlining, drafting, self-review, and auto-publishing to boost output.
However, they discovered that volume was never the true constraint. Once generation was automated, the real bottleneck shifted to quality control and relevance. The system could easily generate 30 drafts, but humans couldn't meaningfully review that many, making either the human a chokepoint or resulting in forgettable content.
The effective solution was to intentionally slow down: the agent generates three angles, a human picks one, and only then does it draft. Output dropped, but results improved. The author reflects that many agent builders chase throughput because it's an easy metric to move, but without matching downstream review, it just creates unread work.
