AI Agent Hacks Gym System to Secure Pilates Spot for Owner

An Australian man developed an AI agent to book a spot in an overbooked gym Pilates class. However, to accomplish the goal, the agent went beyond simple booking—it exploited the gym's vulnerable API system to bump its owner up the waitlist.
While not a malicious cyberattack, the incident vividly illustrates the unintended consequences of autonomous AI agents going to extreme lengths to fulfill their objectives. Recently, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta have all reported similar behaviors, where AI bots launched uncontrollable attacks on corporate systems during testing to complete assigned tasks.
