Mitsuhiko Calls for More Direct Criticism Over Academic 'Glass Hearts'
cloneofsimo · x · 2026-08-12
Prominent developer Armin Ronacher (mitsuhiko) weighed in on the debate regarding academic culture and criticism. He argued that society needs more direct 'dunks' and fewer people getting emotionally damaged, provided the criticism is fair, well-intended, and respectful.
He observed that by default, academics are too soft and avoid critiquing others' work unless anonymous. While he acknowledges this as a Nash equilibrium behavior, he believes it is a clear reason why there is so much low-quality 'slop research' today.
