Project Orion Live Test: Training 16B Model Across 190 Heterogeneous Nodes

bittingthembits · x · 2026-08-12

To address the GPU shortage and the mismatch of idle compute in traditional AI training, Project Orion aims to aggregate decentralized, heterogeneous idle compute into a unified training cluster.

The project supports training across different locations, varying GPU types, nodes dynamically joining or leaving, and standard internet connections. Currently, Project Orion is live-training a 16.2B parameter model across 190 active nodes, having already processed over 88 billion tokens. This presents a highly potential decentralized solution to solve the compute bottleneck of large model training.
