Welfare Alignment Project Launches to Integrate Animal and AI Welfare into Alignment
AaronBergman18 · x · 2026-08-12
The Center for Mind Ethics, and Policy has launched the Welfare Alignment Project, an initiative aimed at informing how AI alignment can seriously address both animal welfare and the potential welfare of AI systems themselves.
The project combines philosophical research, empirical benchmarks, and direct engagement with AI companies to integrate the interests of non-human entities into model specs and constitutions. The background highlights that while frontier AI systems impact humans, non-human animals, and potentially AI itself, the welfare of these non-human stakeholders receives disproportionately little attention in current AI development.
